Antidote to Loneliness

September 24, 2010 in personal welness, TYU

I came across a very interesting article on Intent.com entitled ‘The Surprising Antidote to Loneliness’.
http://www.intent.com/debbiemandel/blog/surprising-antidote-loneliness
I noted in my comment to the article, “I should be shocked . . .”
Why am I not shocked? Sadly, because there is far too much evidence that the medical community is off-course on many many aspects of good health and the solutions (which the medical community refers to as ‘treatment’) for less-than-perfect health and well-being (illness). It is no wonder that the true cause and solution of dis-ease, not to be mistaken with disease, which they are grouping the emotion of loneliness with, continues to evade modern medical science. to Be or Not to Be

August 13, 2010 in lifestyle

To be or not to be ?
There is a very simple answer to this long-asked question. Be.
When “thinking positive”, practicing Intention or Affirmation or Prayer,
and in all daily thought and activity it is essential To Be . . .
This is the difference between affluence and not affluence, success and not success, growth and not growth,
freedom and not freedom. Are you all familiar with affirmation, prayer, and intention?
I notice regularly on Intent.com (the web site) that there are far too many negative expressions of Intent.
Always, always, always, BE positive. State your intentions, affirmations, prayers, within a positive framework.

Alamkara

August 10, 2010 in yoga

Today I came across new term, *Alamkara* and I wonder what do you think about it?

Alamkara – is an ornament, something you can wear, a piece of jewelry, a pretty broche. Interestingly, it literally means a combination of two roots “Alan” – “just enough” and “kara” (karma)-“doing”. It means “Just enough doing”. So when you are doing just enough it becomes an ornament, a beautiful peace, an art work. It bears an aesthetic value.
Alamkara is a very important concept for the evolvement of modern Yoga. Read the rest of this entry →

Enlightenment

August 10, 2010 in yoga

Personally, I think that Enlightenment is a very difficult state to achieve. However, through hardship and continued efforts any person can reach Enlightenment. Each of us has a Buddha nature which we tend to ignore and cover up with our desires. Enlightenment is then the return to our simplest nature – a return to simplicity, not the gaining of something more. The Buddha himself abandoned the road of privation and hardship as the route to enlightenment. Zen Buddhist stories are full of references to the fact that the harder you try to reach enlightenment, the longer you will take.

Buddha reached the state of nirvana at the time of His enlightenment. After experiencing nirvana himself, he decided to teach others the path to the same. According to Buddha, nirvana should be the ultimate goal of every individual. Forty-five years later, when he died, he passed through pari nirvana, the complete nirvana. Nirvana literally means extinguishing or unbinding. However, in Buddhism, nirvana means freedom from the constant cravings that we experience in life.

It means freedom from everything that leads us to dissatisfaction, like desire, jealousy, greed, ignorance, etc. After a person attains this sense of freedom, he moves into a state of total ecstasy. All karmic debts get settled and he doesn’t need to go through the cycle of birth and death again.

Yoga

August 2, 2010 in yoga

Today I’d like to share with you an essay about Yoga written by my friend Anna Shakun
You are welcome to share your thoughts

Yoga philosophy is immense…It encompass a big variety of practices and ideas that evolved in different ways over several thousand years. Some ideas were similar and organically growing on top of one another, some were radically opposite to what was before; and yet they all found their place in a concept of yoga, they were all called “Yoga”. Philosophy, spirituality, religion, cult, social institute, art, medicine, physical therapy and exercise can all be part of yogic experience.

So how one defines such broad matter as Yoga, and do you really need to give it a clear definition? How do you define existence, world…nature? I guess yoga is such an expansive concept that defining it with a single statement would be limiting it to something that it is not…But at the same time as it takes shapes in our world, as we pass it through ourselves we define it- and only this, personal definition is valid, it makes sense- because through it we define who we are.

How to make a positive difference in the World

August 1, 2010 in giving

The world can seem like an unfriendly, threatening place, yet we all want safety, health, and happiness for ourselves and our loved ones. How can one ordinary person — you or me — make a positive difference in this world? One way is the practice “paying it forward.” While the steps might be simple, the outcome can change the world. Be attentive wherever you are for opportunities to help someone. Perhaps you have an elderly or disabled neighbor who is too proud to ask for help with their yard work or maybe you’re in a restaurant and see someone who looks like they could use some kind stranger to pay for their meal. You can change people’s attitudes about the world through your unobtrusive acts of kindness. Read the rest of this entry →

wishing for what you don’t want ?

July 29, 2010 in lifestyle

Familiar with self-talk? How about affirmations?
Well, we all have self-talk and we all practice affirmations, intentionally or otherwise. The important thing
is to think about what you want, not about what you don’t want. Even for a very positive person, there is still a vital
element about your thoughts and desires that must be released correctly; And that element is positivity.
Be sure that the way in which you present the desire is affirmative in nature.

How to Practice Random Acts of Kindness

July 27, 2010 in loving kindness

People with the best intentions sometimes get overwhelmed by the idea of charity. They think they need a great deal of time
or money or courage to make a real difference in the world. But you don’t have to be a philanthropist to help. Anne Herbert said,
“Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty;” by doing this, you can help every day with small but important
acts of encouragement and generosity.

living the Middle Way

July 21, 2010 in lifestyle

The Middle Way, or Middle Path, ascribed to the Buddha in his description of
The Noble Eightfold Path, is a life lived between the extremes of
self-denial and self-indulgence.

The Noble Eightfold Path, described in the teachings of Buddha,
is the way leading to the cessation of suffering and the achievement of
self-awakening. Although the phrase “Middle Way” is attributed to Buddhism, this path is indeed a
noble one to which followers of all beliefs can practice and support.

In the west, Doctors have their Hippocratic Oath which includes the promise to,”DO NO HARM”.
That profound statement holds true for the duty of all beings.
Living the Middle Way  is a lifestyle in balance with the natural forces of the Universe.
The eight elements of the path are represented in the symbol, Dharma Wheel;

  • Right View
  • Right Intention
  • Right Speech
  • Right Action
  • Right Livelihood
  • Right Effort
  • Right Mindfulness
  • Right Concentration
